What impact does

The WELLNESS INDUSTRY have on the future of humanity?

What foresight, insight, or hindsight will the Wellness Industry bring to the table where decisions that alter and shape the landscape of our future are made?

Size does NOT equal Success.

While the business of Wellness is worth 4.4 Trillion dollars and rising, the global rate of obesity, Type- 2 Diabetes, heart disease, and many other preventable lifestyle diseases are on rise in the rich and developed countries where the Wellness Industry thrives and sees the fastest growth, mainstream adaptation, and highest profitability.

Mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors continue to increase, also mainly in countries with the highest level of “wellness” practitioners and consumer spending.

We need to recognize that the “business of Wellness”, while extremely profitable, does not always make us well.

Just like any other industries, the Wellness Industry exists to maximize growth and profitability.

This leaves a void in responsibility and leadership that has not been addressed.

Who is looking after, advocating for, and leading the world in securing our collective Health, Happiness, and Humanity?

The High Cost of Individual Pursuit

Wellness is currently defined as the “active pursuit of holistic health”.  While this focus on individual pursuit has fueled the growth and profitability of the Wellness Industry, it has not made us well.  Why?

First, “holistic health”, the very goal of the pursuit is not only ambitious, it is also ambiguous, subjective and unquantifiable.

The message we are currently sending is:  “if you are not well, try harder”.  And millions of us are doing just that.  Trying and spending our hard-earned money – 4.4 trillion dollars and change to be exact.  Still, have you ever met anyone who thinks they are “well enough”?

More important, the very idea that wellness is an individual pursuit and the promotion of “self-care” disregard the importance of communities and the environments we live in, or the simple fact that we are social beings.

We cannot be well on our own.

The task of securing our collective well-being requires an “all-hands-on-deck” approach. It is time to put the “WE” back in Wellness.

Silence equals Irrelevance

At 4.4 Trillion dollar, the Wellness Industry is one of the largest industries in the world — almost equal in size to Oil and Gas E&P and eclipsing giants such as the Telecommunication and Automobile Manufacturing industries. (10 Biggest Industries in the World in 2021)

True to its name, the Wellness Industry could use its size and influence to lead the world in finding solutions to some of the world’s most urgent and biggest preventable health and wellness issues such as obesity, the increasing array of metabolic diseases and the deterioration of our mental health.

It could have stood at the front line of defense when a global pandemic paralyzed the world.

Its leaders could be sitting in boardrooms and the highest government offices where decisions that affects our collective well-being are made.

Instead, we have chosen to focus on our own growth.

The only solution we offer to the unwell is: more wellness products and services.
